A Short Biography of Mrs. Asmarech (Bimba) Kebede
Mrs. Asmarech Kebede, affectionately known as Bimba, was a woman of quiet strength, deep faith, and lifelong service. Born in Illubabor in 1940 E.C., she began her education at Bethel Mekane Yesus Girls’ School, where her academic and spiritual foundations were laid.
She continued her studies at Sanford International School and earned a degree in Anthropology from Sweet Briar College in Virginia, USA. Her education broadened her worldview but never distanced her from her core values of faith and service.
After returning to Ethiopia, she worked in government and international organizations, including UNICEF, and later became a respected English teacher at the International Community School (ICS) in Addis Ababa. She mentored many students, helping shape their academic and professional journeys.
Mrs. Bimba was known for her humility, generosity, and steadfast faith. She supported many through prayer, hospitality, and church service, remaining an active member of Bethel Mekane Yesus Church throughout her life.
This scholarship honors her legacy by supporting girls at the very school where her journey began—reflecting her belief in the power of education, service, and faith.

About the Scholarship:
The Asmarech (Ms. Bimba) Kebede Abozin Scholarship was created to honor the life and dedication of Ms. Bimba by her sister Alitash Kebede Abozin. Ms. Bimba was beloved alumni and spent many years nurturing young minds as a teacher. She believed in the transformative power of education, and this scholarship is designed to provide students with the opportunity to follow in her footsteps—reaching for their dreams and creating a better future.

Our Mission:
This scholarship aims to support talented and determined students at Bethel Mekanye Yesus School, where Ms. Bimba both learned and taught. The fund ensures that financial barriers do not stand in the way of deserving students who wish to continue their education. The goal is to honor her legacy and the difference she made in the lives of many.

The AYBS Alumni Association was founded to bring together former students and give back to the community. With active chapters in both Ethiopia and North America, the association honored to continuing the legacy of Ms. Bimba by working closely with her sister Alitash Kebede Abozin to honor her contributions to education and support the next generation of students.
