Empowering Students. Strengthening Community. Building the Future.
The AYBS Alumni Association continues to advance its mission of supporting Bethel Mekane Yesus School (BMYS) through impactful programs, partnerships, and alumni engagement initiatives. This quarter reflects strong progress in scholarships, student wellbeing, educational technology, and community connection.
🌸 Women’s Empowerment & Scholarship Launch
During March, we celebrated Women’s History Month by honoring the strength and unity of the AYBS sisterhood and reflecting on the importance of investing in girls’ education. As part of this celebration, we proudly announced the establishment of the Adem Frew Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will begin in the 2026–2027 academic year. The scholarship is generously sponsored by alumna Anisa Adem (Class of the 1980s) in memory of her father and will provide $500 annually to a deserving student demonstrating academic promise and financial need.
The scholarship will cover full tuition, school uniforms, and essential school supplies. Its purpose is to continue a lasting legacy of empowerment by ensuring that girls have access to the education and resources they need to succeed and lead in the future.
đź’– Female Hygiene Support Initiative
The AYBS Alumni Association also launched a Female Hygiene Support Initiative in partnership with Transformation Fellowship Christian Church (Apex, NC), Lotus Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Center in Addis Ababa, and the Adem and Sada Foundation. Through this collaboration, 50 reusable hygiene products were provided to students, helping to address a critical need and reduce barriers that may affect school attendance.
This initiative is designed to offer sustainable support over the next 2–3 years, strengthening student wellbeing and ensuring that more girls can remain focused on their education with dignity and confidence.
đź’» Digital Learning Enhancement Initiative

In April, and in response to requests from school administration and faculty, the AYBS Alumni Association sponsored the purchase of four movable digital TV screens to enhance classroom instruction and improve student learning outcomes. This initiative will benefit approximately 915 students from Kindergarten through Grade 8 by expanding access to interactive and technology-driven learning.
The screens are designed for flexible use across the school. They are shared among classrooms, with one screen rotating between KG sections and another installed in a supervised common area where students can engage with educational content during breakfast and lunch periods.
📚 Curriculum Integration & Learning Use
The digital screens are fully integrated into the English Language and Natural Science curriculum. They are primarily used to support English instruction from KG through Grade 4, focusing on speaking skills, dialogue, pronunciation, and conversational learning. Beginning in Grade 5, the screens support both English and General Science instruction, especially in areas where laboratory resources are limited.

For younger students, the screens help introduce foundational concepts such as self-expression, introductions, and communication skills. For older students, they are used to demonstrate scientific concepts including states of matter, chemical reactions, circulatory and muscular systems, acid-base indicators, and environmental science topics such as the nitrogen cycle. These visual tools help bring abstract concepts to life and strengthen student understanding.
The school also utilizes approved digital curriculum resources and instructional software to support teaching and ensure alignment with academic standards.
